How NOT to do Youth Ministry

The video below is making its rounds. It shows people how not to do Youth Ministry. It is quite humorous, so if you do not feel as though humor and God go together, please feel free not to watch it. Unfortunately, though it is humorous, there is a lot of truth to it. I just pray that when I work with youth I do not fall into the same trap.

Difficult to take this guy seriously--it seems to be all about him, a performance. I imagine you have seen the Louis Giglio video, "How Great Is Our God?" which does focus on God as Creator, even while presenting in a format meant to appeal to "youth." Ignatious' Hubbel "image" is a cheap contrivance by comparison. I think the reaction of most of us is going to be that of the guy who booted him off the stage--leaving us to wonder about a valid way to do an organized outreach.

This video is completely a satire. The guy is a fictionalized character, based on how many of us "do" Youth Ministry.

Thank you for explaining--I may be a bit slow!

This is truly hilarious! It is filmed at a church that is only a few miles from me, and the irony is that many area churches around here DO have incredible programs for youth that encourage and inspire them to lives of service, chastity, commitment. I've been blessed to know and work with several people who attended this church who did the satire. I get the humor, and also the irony. Isn't it true that all kids need though is someone who cares, who listens, and who directs them to the Source of knowledge and Love? I think it's much more simple than it's often made out to be.
